While sitting at work, I took a moment to myself to breathe. I had been wrestling with a number of things in my spirit so I pulled out one of my journals and I began to write concluding my lament with this prayer, “what do I do in this place?”
As I continued to meditate and pray silently within myself, these words hit my spirit, “Stuck in a dry place? You are the river I put in the dessert. New thing? You are that new thing.” I heard it just like that as these scriptures filled my heart:
Isaiah 43:18-19 Remember ye not the former things, neither consider the things of old. Behold, I will do a new thing; now it shall spring forth; shall ye not know it? I will even make a way in the wilderness, and rivers in the desert.
John 7:37-38 In the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried, saying, If any man thirst, let him come unto me, and drink. He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water.
In reviewing these texts more closely, John 7:37-38 set a fire ablaze in my spirit because the spirit of God caused me to read the words of this text in a way I never had before. Essentially what Jesus is saying in this text is this, “drink for the thirsty is always available for those thirsty enough to come to me, but rivers of that same water are activated in those who believe in me and the authority I carry and those rivers flowing from my authority in them will flow out to bring life.” This revelation burned in my spirit from this text as I continued to hear, “You are that river.”
As I shift to release this prophetic word of encouragement God gave to me, I wanted to share with you the definitions of the following three words from John 7:38 for context to the word being released.
- Rivers from this text is the word potamos meaning stream, torrent, flood, a current, brook or freshet (as drinkable).
- Living from this text is the word zao meaning to live, breathe, be among the living, to enjoy real life, blessed, endless in the Kingdom of God, having vital power, in itself to be full in vigor.
- Water from this text is the word hydros meaning of many peoples, water in rivers, fountains, pools – the waters of a deluge.
Prophetic Word of Encouragement
“You are the river I have placed in the desert. You are the river I have set forth to bring new life, to bring nourishment to dry places. You are that river. You are that river, for out of your belly shall flow rivers but you must acknowledge and know that you are the river."
You are that river of life. You are that river of renewal. You are that river of restoration. You are that river of hope. You are that river for my Glory rest upon you. My spirit dwells within you. Multiple streams of my glory rest in your spirit - Release.
Be encouraged, for everything that caused that river to die, everything that cut off the flow of its streams shall be removed. I am removing the debris. I am removing the debris and every demonic dam shall be dismantled, destroyed and removed. Everything that caused the river to dry up, everything that caused the river to die is being removed. And I shall again breathe life into the river I sent to bring life. You are living water.”
In considering that word, here's what I learned and received as strength for myself. We as believers, sometimes look without for what the Lord has already placed within us.
As it says in II Peter 1:3, “according as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue.” What an encouraging truth? A truth, that often gets lost in our preoccupation with what is happening or has happened around us or to us.
Instead of tapping into what is in us, we find ourselves looking without for what the Father has already placed in us. We walk around without knowing the depth of what we carry: not understanding that our belief in Christ has the power to activate rivers of healing, deliverance, breakthrough and life from the very water we received for the thirst that drove us into His presence.
As believers, we are never stuck. We are never without help. We are never as destitute as it seems. We are never without hope where we are even if it is dry, because we have rivers of living water in us. We carry rivers of transformation. We are the new thing our regions need. We are the ones carrying fresh vision and insight for our regions and we are the ones carrying the blueprint to build what we do not see and cannot find. I am, you are, we are the rivers the dry places of our cities, states, regions, and nations are in need of, and I see rivers rising.
I see rivers rising to overtake the dry places. I see rivers rising to knock down old dead structures. I see rivers rising to carry off what has been choking the life out of purpose. I see rivers rising to bring the endless Kingdom of God. I see rivers rising and coming forth. Rivers of living waters are rising in believers and they are bringing forth life and newness - The Rivers Are Rising.
